The Ilford Operatic and Dramatic Society was created in 1919 at the end of the First World War, having started life as the “Ilford Social Club” as early as 1890, performing operette at the Town Hall and the Ilford Hippodrome Theatre. Ilford Operatic and Dramatic Society performed both musicals and plays at the Town Hall from 1919 until 1974, interrupted only by the Second World War. In 1975, with a production of Orpheus In The Underworld, the newly built Kenneth More Theatre became our new home and this is where we still enjoy performing today. Since 1919 we have performed two musicals a year and at least three musicals a year since 1992, following the formation of a Youth Group in 1991. IODS Youth’s first musical was The Boyfriend, in March 1992.
